Back In Black,"Back
In Black" (Indie Release)
BACK IN BLACK is an
AC/DC tribute band with balls! Why you ask? Well, to put six band originals
alongside two AC/DC classics on a CD - you’ve gotta
be pretty damn sure of yourself. But BACK IN BLACK pulls it off, creating an
audio illusion of a POWERAGE-era AC/DC fronted by Brian Johnson. Although the
musical style of the band is reminiscent of the whole album catalogue of AC/DC
(HIGH VOLTAGE, POWERAGE, HIGHWAY TO HELL, BACK IN BLACK, FOR THOSE ABOUT TO
ROCK, etc) in both songwriting and performance, the vocals are closer to Brian
Johnson than Bon Scott. And that's fine with me - although I prefer the Bon
Scott-era band, the songs are still effective (plus, not many can pull off
Brian Johnson-like vocals). If someone had given me disc and told me it was
AC/DC outtakes or unreleased songs I would have believed it - these guys are
that good!
Although superfluous,
the inclusion of "Money Honey" and "Back in Black" show
that this band has the AC/DC sound down to an art.

Back Black doing their own thing -- finally
By Malcolm Mayhew
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Not many cover bands put out original records, but not many cover bands have
stirred up such a following and fuss as Back in Black, a Dallas-based AC/DC
tribute band that pops up at nearly every event sponsored by 93.3 FM "The
Bone."
Which is fine. That's the group's core audience. Said audience is what inspired
the group to get in the studio and not just keep stealing from AC/DC.
"We've been doing this for three years, and during that time, we've met
all these great fans who say they want to hear new material from us," says
guitarist Mike Mroz, who plays the role of Angus Young. "They say,
'There's nothing good out there.' "
So the group banged out an eight-song, self-titled disc comprising six
originals and, of course, two AC/DC covers, Back in Black and Money Honey.
They're throwing a release party for it Saturday at R.J.'s Roadhouse in the
Stockyards.
The six originals are steeped in '70s-era AC/DC, Mroz says. "Mix that
sound with Jet, and that's what people are saying it sounds like. That's a
niche in music that needs to be filled right now."
1.31.2005
Yet another great show at RJ's Roadhouse. We wanna
personally thank Ronnie and his awesome wife for having us out there for a rockin time. Special thanks to Company V for startin the night out right!!! Man! You gotta
hear these guys! Heard some of my favorite Iron Maiden, Rush, and Journey tunes
in the next room and I thought they just had a CD player cranked up real loud!
Totally amazing. Looking forward to playing with them again. Didn't get to meet
Ted Nugent liked I'd hoped but thats all good, I'm
sure he had plenty of things to do. Glad shooting me with a bow and arrow
wasn't one of them! Anyway, it'll be a while before we see you again rockers.
Next time is Feb. 12th back at Firewater. Hope to see you all then!
1.21.2005
Our New CD has been officially launched! The release party was
incredible, we packed the Firewater! Special thanks to Billy Hayes , The
BIG Bone Morning Crew and Scott Strong for having us on and playing three of
our new original songs. We would also like to thank Russ Martin for
playing our CD last week, we’re very excited to participate in his new movie
project. We even heard that The Hardline
also played Drop the Bomb, thanks guys. The CD will be available
for sale at all of our shows and can now be ordered online. Please go to our merchandise page for
more details. We should have some great new photos courtesy of Andrew Dieb at Crystal Clear Media posted soon. We’ll see
you on Jan 29th at RJ’s Roadhouse for the Ted Nugent After Party.

Be sure to checkout our new mp3’s in our Media section!!! Back in Black and Money Honey sound totally kick
ass. We’ve also posted a couple of our new original songs from our upcoming
CD. We’re still on for the CD release party/show next Friday the 21st
and then at RJ’s Roadhouse on the 29th for the after party show for
the Ted Nugent concert at Billy Bob’s. These will be killer shows, so see you
there!
1.3.2005
Happy New Year! Well, we all made it yet another year. Hope everyone had a good
time over the holidays. Now its down to business! We got two great shows this
month: the official Back in Black CD release party at Firewater on the 21st
and then we’re playing at RJ’s Roadhouse on the 29th RIGHT AFTER Ted
Nugent gets off stage across the street at Billy Bob’s! My senses and sources
tell me that Nugent’s an AC/DC fan, so there’s a good chance he may show up!
Who knows!
12.12.2004
Firewater was a good show! That's the very first time the canon on For Those
About to Rock was as loud and bassy as it needs to
be! About time someone got it right! Very special thanks to the Crystal Clear
Media and BodyBoom video crews. You guys were
awesome. Anyways, no shows for a while I think, not for the rest of this month
anyway. Be sure to check out Back in Black's original side project band and

Firewater was interesting. We had a good time hanging out with all of our buds
but the sound suffered greatly. Had to move it all inside due to mother nature.
Just couldn't quite get the sound right, couldn't hear what we were singing! Oh
well, still got to rock out, so its always good times. Thanks to everyone for
coming out! See you back there in November and December! Next up:

Bone Bash was a huge success! We had SO much fun! It was so great getting to
jam out to some of the best hits and hang with over 30 thousand of our closest
friends. Special thanks to 93.3 The Bone for making everything possible, to
Cheap Trick, XS Whiskey, and Phoenix for rockin out
with us, and last but not least, a very special thanks to everyone who got to
come out and make it a killer concert! We Salute You!!! Be sure to look for us

A very special thanks to all of our friends at 93.3 The Bone for making
Thursday's live radio performance possible. We had so much fun! I swear, not
only are they the greatest radio station of all time but all of the good folks
that run that place are on a new level of coolness. Everyone was so nice and it
was good getting to talk to everyone and have a good time. Keep an eye out on
our Media page for a recording of the six songs we played! Also click on the
Bone logo on the right to visit their site and check out what's goin on!
